These dolls are from the highlands or mountain regions of Ecuador in San Rafael, Otavalo and are handmade under Fair Trade conditions.
Each is decorated with dresses and hats that reflect local culture and customs of different Indigenous groups of the area.
Some locals of the Andes use the hat "Panza de Burro" or "Donkey's Belly". These dolls are made with "Pano de Lana", an imitation chomois leather that are dyed with natural pigments and molded at high tempartures into shape. They are light and the structure of the body doesn't have divisions mnaking them resistenet to the play use of children.
These dolls are not designed for children under 3 years of age
Doll sixe is approximatley 26cms in legnth, each dolls design is different as they are all hand made, your doll may be a slightly different size or colour than the picture shown
FYI - In Equador a"Hat of Donkeys belly" is a typical hat made from the leather of the donkey's belly. It is used by Indigenous people in some regions of the Andes in South America.
