"Our Aunties" is a collection of stories and poetry by and about some of our lovcal Brisbane Elders as told to Di Watson from Brisbane Circle Magazine.
All the women in this book have an association to the schools, Southside Education and Hymba Yumba, where a large precentage of students are Indigenous.
The schools wanted to honour these Aboriginal leaders and to record their history as a source of inspiration for young Inguiegnous women.
Aboroginal people us "Auntie" as a term of respect, the Aunties say that we are all related, all, "connected to the earth".
The stories record high points and low points of the Aunties' lives. They take us into the world they grew up in and show how they emerged into the strong leaders that they are today.
Stories include Aunty Cecelia Barber, Aunty Jenny Thompson, Aunty Valda Coolwell and many more
