The "Wharenui Stencil Book" is a must for children wanting to learn more about the Marae. Children can design their own Wharenui and with the help of the stencils they can also choose the designs from the area they are from. Children can use the Maori designs and patterns to border around their pages. If you are teaching a lot of children then cut the pages so that several children can use it at any one time.
This book comes with paper in the back and a resting board, the idea is that there are 9 pages that stencils, you move the board under each stencil that you wish to use and slip the paper in between then trace around your stencil and you have the first stage of your own "Wahenui" or "Meeting House" each stencil has a desciption of it for learning purposes like the "Tekoteko" is the figure that stands on top of the roof, it is said that this figure represents an ancestor of the iwi (tribe). Some iwi have a chief or an important person as their tekoteko.
